Genealogy In Five Acts

The St. Joseph County Public Library’s One Book, One Michiana  this year is A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. Just like last year, we are co-sponsoring a day of events that will focus on genealogy!

Come join us 23 April from 10:30-3:30 (with an intermission at noon) at the main library in downtown South Bend for Genealogy in Five Acts! Events will be:

Act I: “This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.” 

  • 10:30am Rockne Training Room
  • The first act will be presenting online resources for British genealogy

Act 2: “This sceptred isle”

  • 11:30 am Colfax Auditorium
  • The second act will focus on those early historical records from Shakespeare’s time

Act 3: “Thou art sad; get thee a wife!”

  • 1:00pm Rockne Training Room
  • The third act will focus on the kinds of marriage records you can find: marriage banns, marriage settlements, and more

Act 4: “All the world’s a stage…”

  • 1:30pm Colfax Auditorium
  • The fourth act will focus on the history of theatre in St. Joseph County

Act 5: “The play’s the thing…”

  • 2:30 pm Colfax Auditorium
  • The fifth act focuses on the Michiana Memory’s collection of theatre ephemera

You’ll need to register for each event (click the appropriate link for more information and how to register). Come join us for a day full of genealogy, history, and Shakespeare!
